Winter Solstice 2019

Looking Within to See the Future

Winter Solstice 2019 – The Sun enters Capricorn at 11:20 pm EST on Saturday, December 21, marking the moment in the Northern Hemisphere when the night is longest and the day is shortest.

Traditionally, the solstice is celebrated by candle light, honoring both the rejuvenating darkness of the void and the impending return of the life-giving Sun. Moving forward, the days will begin to grow ever-so-slightly longer, until (we hope) spring eventually comes again in all its abundance.

With five planets - including Saturn conjunct Pluto - two centaurs, and the South Node in Capricorn, this solstice is packed with transformational power.

With five planets – including Saturn conjunct Pluto – two centaurs, and the South Node in Capricorn, this solstice is packed with transformational power.

The astrology of the 2019 Winter Solstice emphasizes the power of getting quiet, letting go, and going within to find wisdom and strength. This year’s solstice happens with the waning Moon in Scorpio, just a few days before the last New Moon of the decade, a Capricorn solar eclipse on December 25/26.

Water sign Scorpio is willing to plunge into the darkest depths of the soul. Scorpio knows that the key to power in the external world is found in the shadows. Scorpio knows that we can only become the powerful creators we were born to be when we are willing to face our un-healed trauma, our deepest fears, and the parts of the Self we were taught to be ashamed of and to hide from ourselves and others.

Solar eclipses are also powerful times of letting go. This eclipse comes with some very fortunate aspects. The Sun and Moon are conjunct benefic Jupiter and trine Uranus, the Awakener, in Taurus, the sign of the Earth. So we really want to use this moment to look within and let go of roles, beliefs, and identities we have outgrown as we step into the unknown potential of a new decade.

John Sandbach’s Chandra symbol for the first degree of Capricorn is “A canopy bed with curtains.”

“This symbol signifies a private place in which to dream and retreat from the world,” Sandbach writes. “It may seem like a strangely introverted symbol for such a social and gregarious sign as Capricorn, but the fact is that unless this very private inward place is established as a base there can be no effective operating out in the world.”

On her Edge Magazine 2020 preview radio show, Cathryn Taylor and I talked about the fear factor in the collective psyche right now. Beneath the heavy gravity of January’s epic Saturn-Pluto conjunction, the old patriarchal structures are visibly crumbling and cracking.

When the entire world is transforming at this accelerated pace, the only security we have — really the only security we have ever had or can ever have — comes from our connection to the Divine within ourselves…and from being part of a community of like-hearted souls.

I believe this Winter Solstice is designed to help us go within and find our resolve to break free of old 3D baggage and live the lives we came here to live. Even if you don’t normally celebrate the old Nature holidays, I encourage you to do a little ritual on Saturday evening.

Centaur planet Pholus, a patron saint of ritual, is conjunct the Sun at the solstice. Pholus bridges the orbits of Neptune and Saturn, opening a link that can help us ground some of our most beautiful visions of the future into the world of 3D reality.

This next-level 5D energy (a quality of all the centaurs and TNOs) is further emphasized by centaur Chariklo’s tight conjunction with Saturn and Pluto. Chariklo was a powerful healer, and also the wife of Chiron and mother of Tiresias, the blind hermaphroditic prophet who appears in both Homer’s Odyssey and T.S. Eliot’s The Waste Land.

Chariklo brings the ability to “see” the unseen, that which exists in quantum potentiality but must be named in order to become part of this reality.

We are the ones who can ground those potentials, here and now, and change our reality.

Miracles are on offer in December but you probably won’t land the big one all by your lonesome. Heading towards the January 2020 Saturn-Pluto conjunction, you’d better find your cosmic krewe.

Plus, a sneak peek at the January 10 lunar eclipse in Cancer, opposition Saturn and Pluto.

How Doing What You Love Saves the World

Jupiter Conjunct the Galactic Center

The Naked Songwriter Podcast #54

Dear fellow weirdo:

Your life purpose was never about trying to contort, stuff and cram yourself into one of society’s little boxes.

Doing what you love saves the world

With my beloved by the ocean, rainbows over water, making music with my friends.

You’re an alien.

You’re a galactic adventurer, a starseed, an evolutionary outlier.

You’re a mutant, a freak, a warrior, a savior.

You came here to do your thing as passionately and as fully as possible.

You came here to bring beauty, not to share in the pain of those poor souls who have contracted to stay in the old 3D reality.

Now is the time when it’s really helpful to be clear on this.

Live Heroically – Do What You Love

Boldness + Creativity = How We Change the World

A couple centuries before scientists realized that reality is a mass hallucination, William Blake claimed that everything is Imagination. Blake saw human beings as occupying a unique position in the cosmos, as we have – or could have – the freedom to apply our imagination to whatever we choose.

7 of Poetry - Blake TarotAs Mercury was stationing to return to direct motion (Wednesday, 11/20, 2:12 pm EST), I did a little tarot spread  from the William Blake Tarot of the Creative Imagination. The first card I drew was the 7 of Poetry – Boldness.

In addition to being a prolific and innovative artist, Blake was an iconoclastic visionary who prefigured the psychological universe we all inhabit today. He was ahead of his time and probably is still ahead of our own time.

Here’s what Blake said about the artist’s responsibility to society:

The wretched state of the arts…demands a firm & determinate conduct on the part of artists to resist the contemptible counter arts established by…politicians…

Ed Buryn, creator of the Blake Tarot, writes about the 7 of Poetry: “This card urges you to face your fears and live heroically…You can do your duty to life — countering fears and mortality itself — by doing what you love, upholding truth, and encouraging others in the same bold path.”

I love this last sentence:

“You can do your duty to life by doing what what you love, upholding truth, and encouraging others in the same bold path.”

The Perverted Modern Imagination

If imagination is the only thing that truly exists, then we can re-create the world by imagining it differently.

This is, of course, what real artists do: they show us the world as it exists in their imagination.

But we live in a time where imagination has been degraded. Most people’s imaginations were crippled early on by family-of-origin trauma, driven underground by the patriarchal dogmas of the family religion, and perverted through long years of school – where the curriculum is designed to teach kids how to shut up, sit still, and become obedient servants of the ruling classes.

In adulthood, any remaining sparks of imagination must compete with the relentless barrage of images most people consume daily on television, the Internet, and social media.

Ascension: We are the Neural Network of Mother Earth

A colleague proposed to me recently that humans are kind of like Mother Earth’s brain. She had a vision in which she saw that Mother Earth’s consciousness has been semi-dormant for centuries.

Now our living, conscious planet is awakening again. She longs  to evolve beyond her current state of depletion (chemical warfare, devastation of the forests and oceans, constant war, poverty, abuse, etc.).

This feels like a helpful metaphor to me.

As the physical inhabitants of the planet with the capacity to change reality, we are in a unique position to help Mother Earth return to her true state as a Garden Paradise.

But how can we imagine a better reality when we are still trying to “succeed” within a system that hates the imagination? How can we imagine a better reality when we are so tired and stressed and sad from trying to make ourselves fit into a job, a relationship, a family that will never work for us?

If we are the brain cells that Mother Earth needs in order to renew herself, how can she ascend when we have grown weak and dull and complacent? Choosing to argue within ourselves and complain about the sad state of the Brain, rather than doing what we were made to do?

Blake saw that our duty was to be ourselves, to express our own uniqueness, and to do – to the best of our ability – those things that express our own Divine spark.

We didn’t incarnate here at this time to be obedient wage slaves. We didn’t come here to live out the bankrupt dreams of our parents’ generations. We didn’t come here to blindly follow society’s marching orders. We didn’t go through everything we had to endure to get to this point in our lives to say, “Well, the world is going to hell and there’s nothing that poor little me can do about it.”

We came here to re-create the world, plain and simple.

This is our duty, to our own eternal spirit and to this beautiful planet and her plants and animals who give us so much nourishment and abundance while asking so little of us in return.

The astrology of 2020 tells us we are heading into a hardcore cycle of death and rebirth in human society. If this isn’t obvious to you now, it will be apparent by early January  when we have a lunar eclipse in Cancer opposing the epochal Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn. The time to claim our divine right of liberty is now.

My first moment of transcendence

The Start of My Life in Music

Child in the backseat, ’bout four or five years
Hank’s voice on the radio

             – Lucinda Williams, “Car Wheels on a Gravel Road”

From the beginning, I wanted to make music. The first moment of transcendence I recall in this lifetime happened in the back seat of a 1972 Chevy Vega. We were driving from somewhere far away back to the trailer where we lived in southern Indiana.

I was four or five years old, curled up beneath a blanket in the back seat.

As the black sky rolled by outside the window, I was falling into slumber, lulled by the sound of the wind outside the car and the hum of the tires beneath me. And then.

My stepdad tuned the radio to a Christian gospel radio station. The Chuck Wagon Gang was the group. I heard those ladies singing their hearts out and I could see their harmonies like intertwining filaments of light. Dancing in my mind’s eye like angels. Or like how stars would sound if I could hear them.

I was electrified. I was enthralled. I was enraptured. I knew right then that this was what I needed.

A couple years later, we moved to a bigger town in Indiana. My parents got more and more fundamentalist in their Christianity. And more and more distant in their relationship. And before long, the music had drained from our lives.

As a middle schooler I learned that secular music was “of the devil”. I couldn’t stop loving music, but my parents actively discouraged me from playing the nine-dollar guitar they’d grudgingly bought me at an estate sale. (Thinking, I’m certain, that I would give up my musical dreams once I realized how hard it was to learn to play the guitar without any encouragement or instruction.)

#thankyoupatrons

Since I started my Patreon page in 2016, I’ve posted 36 songs to my patrons. I’ve written a lot more music than I’ve posted, but these are the songs I felt were ‘finished enough’ to share with the people who care enough about what I do to contribute a few bucks every month.

I’m grateful to be able to count on a little extra cash each month for groceries and guitar strings. But the encouragement and accountability built into this neo-patronage system have been the biggest blessings.

I have a wild, prolific, and wide-ranging imagination. I love making music. I love playing the guitar and singing. I love writing songs. I love recording songs. I love the music production side of things, learning how to capture the sounds I’m hearing in my head and translate them into audible frequencies.

What has traditionally been a challenge for me is finishing songs and setting them free into the world.

Just knowing that a dozen or so people dig me and what I’m doing enough to show up with $5 or $10 every month has motivated me to finish work at a rate that is semi-astounding to me.

More prosperity and bliss can be yours. That’s the message of Tuesday’s Taurus Full Moon and the rare Mercury transit across the face of the Sun on 11/11. We are still in the throes of letting go of old trauma and limiting beliefs, with Mercury still retrograde and conjunct the Sun in Scorpio. But if we are willing to trust ourselves and the Great Creator, we can tune in to a powerful new reality that we have the opportunity to create together.

Owning Your Shadow

Libra and the Mirror of Relationship

The Naked Songwriter Podcast #50

Owning Your Shadow | Libra and The Mirror of RelationshipsToday’s Libra New Moon opposition Chiron in Aries empowers us to create or attract the supportive relationships we desire. It also highlights the evolutionary imperative to own your own shadow.

There’s tremendous opportunity within the coming chaos for those who are willing to do whatever it takes to evolve beyond illusory limits and step into the power of the Authentic Self.

I dig into some of that chaos with a look at the 21st degree of Capricorn, scene of next week’s Pluto station as well as a main player in the Oct. 13 Aries Full Moon, this year’s Saturn retrograde and the Jan. 10, 2020 lunar eclipse.

What Does It Mean to Go Beyond Mind?

A rare Quantum Leap Opportunity

Beyond Mind The Next GenerationSeptember 18 – December 2

With Jupiter whipping through his home sign of Sagittarius between now and Dec. 2, 2019, this Fall is a rare opportunity to radically expand your awareness and lay the foundation for prosperity and success in the turbulent years to come.

Introducing: Beyond Mind

Tatiana Sakurai and I are launching a new coaching intensive / experiment in group consciousness called Beyond Mind: The Next Generation. The first three-month leg of our journey together starts Thursday, Sept. 26 and runs through the Winter Solstice.

Who Is Beyond Mind For?

Beyond Mind: The Next Generation is for you if:

  • You have a dream. You have a persistent vision of what your real life feels like and you’re tired of trying to manifest it.
  • You’re willing (or at least willing to be willing!) to do whatever it takes to develop an unshakeable faith in your own inner knowing.
  • You’re sick of thinking, scheming, bargaining, worrying, and trying to work your way to inner peace and outer success.
  • You’re ready to move from the 3D world of thinking and ego into the 5D reality of direct knowing.

Why Us?

Because we’ve done it. We’ve demonstrated that dreams do come true. Not through ceaseless striving or self-sacrifice but simply by surrendering the egoic mind and making the radical decision to always trust your inner guidance.

The ego – the rational, thinking mind – is the enforcer of 3D reality. We are entering a new world era in 2020 where the old ways don’t work anymore.  When you are truly embodied, you don’t have to think about what to do next because your body always knows what is best for you.

This is the quantum leap from 3D to 5D reality.

We will be teaching you a structured, scalable system of lightworker tools and practices in a safe, inclusive space, including:

  • Applying spiritual truths to daily life
  • Learning to trust your inner guidance and follow it, no matter what
  • Clearing negative ancestral and family patterns and limiting beliefs
  • Healing trauma
  • Identifying and clearing the energy of psychic attack and influence
  • The power of connecting with your inner child
  • Letting go of toxic relationships and playing small

Why Now?

Jupiter favors the bold – those who are willing to dare greatly – and with the hardcore astrology of 2020 looming, this truly is the time to go ALL IN with your spiritual practices and creating the life and the world you want to live in.

In addition, Saturn stationed direct in his home sign of Capricorn on September 18. Saturn direct gives us the clarity and patience to channel Jupiter’s visionary exuberance into structures that will stand the test of time.

In other words: this is the time to stop talking about what you want to do with your life and start doing it. The Saturn-Pluto conjunction and generation-defining Great Conjunction of 2020 are calling us to step up, reclaim our power, and radically reshape our world.

Are you ready? Join us (and learn more about this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity) on my Beyond Mind: The Next Generation page.

We don’t want you waking up in September 2020 to find this card in your mailbox!
