Mercury Retrograde Libra Sept. 2015 Podcast

I get as frustrated as anyone during Mercury retrogrades. But I have also learned to love these periods, because Mercury Rx tends to be when I make the biggest changes in my thinking, changes that lead me to more freedom, more money, more joy, and more of what I want out of life. Think of this podcast as a guided tour to the secret places Mercury’s publicist doesn’t want you to know about. And yes, the guided tours I’ve enjoyed most were the ones where the tour guide was obviously just a bit cracked…

So, What Does Mercury Retrograde Mean?

Mercury – the astrological archetype of the mind, of thinking, and of communication –  is retrograde in the sign of Libra from September 17 to October 9, 2015. Since Libra is the sign of relationships, particularly how we think about and communicate within our relationships, this Mercury retrograde can help us make our current relationships better. It can also help us rewrite our internal script about what it means to be in a relationship so that we attract more enjoyable and mutually-beneficial partnerships in the future.

The Disruptive Effects of Mercury in Retrograde

Usually when people talk about Mercury retrograde or Mercury in retrograde they’re talking about the disruptive effects the winged messenger brings when he appears to move backward across the sky. We have three Mercury Rx periods each year and each period lasts for about three weeks. During these times, the areas of life that Mercury governs, such as communication, electronics, transportation, the signing of contracts, and scheduling – tend to go a little bit haywire.

It’s a good idea to be extra-cautious in any of these areas during a Mercury retrograde period. Hold off on signing important contracts until the retrograde is over, if you can. Double check any potentially hazardous email messages before you hit send. Build in extra time in your schedule to account for unexpected delays, etc.

Unless you’re a yogi in a cave in the wilderness, though, you still have to live your life. So don’t let Mercury retrograde scare you into paralysis!

“You Can’t Solve a Problem with the Same Mind That Created It”

Despite the frustration they can bring, Mercury retrograde periods can end up being incredibly positive. Why? Because the confusion, delay, and disruption of our mental routines pushes out of our normal thinking patterns. And most of our normal thinking patterns are extremely limited and have very little to do with reality!

By forcefully disrupting our stale, habitual thought patterns,  Mercury retrograde offers us the gift of expanded perception, the opportunity to see life without the normal filters the mind habitually uses.

In an instant, you see a possibility that was hidden the moment before. Suddenly, you realize that the story you have been telling yourself for years about your relationship isn’t really true. It’s just a shorthand your mind created years ago to help you make sense out of a situation that is no longer even relevant!

You see that your beliefs about how much money someone with your skills or gifts can make in this economy are only beliefs you inherited from your parents. They have absolutely nothing to do with your own life path – or with reality itself. These are the moments when your entire life can change! And they are particularly available during Mercury retrograde.

Dr. Wayne Dyer, who recently graduated from Earth School, often said, “You can’t solve a problem with the same mind that created it.”
