Aquarius New Moon Conjunct Black Moon Lilith, Jupiter in Sag, Grrrl Power & More

Aquarius New Moon – February 4, 2019

In lieu of a new Naked Songwriter podcast, I took advantage of the opportunity this weekend to work with my favorite video co-presenter, the lovely and talented Miss Roya Pearl.

In this live stream we break down the energy of the February 4, 2019, Aquarius New Moon, which kicks off Chinese New Year and coincides with Imbolc, the first cross-quarter day of the pagan Nature calendar. So, there’s a lot of power here!

We talk about the New Moon happening conjunct Mercury and conjunct Black Moon Lilith and how you can work with Lilith to access the very positive potential of this lunation. We discuss the positive aspects from the Aquarius New Moon to Jupiter in Sagittarius and Mars in Aries.

We discuss why you’ve been feeling crazy / stuck / like you’re running in place and how that is going to change once we get past this New Moon.

Plus we do an a capella rendition of “Warriors” (the theme song from the reboot of “She-Ra: Princesses of Power”) and acoustic covers of Simon and Garfunkel, the Ramones and Buffalo Springfield.

“White Supremacy” and Uranus in Taurus

The Atrocities We Commit Upon Ourselves

astrology chart tree of life synagogue shooting October 27 2018 Pittsburgh PA

I struggled to unlock this chart.

Obviously, there’s the Grand Cross: Sun and retrograde Venus in Scorpio opposition Uranus in Taurus, all square the Nodes.

There’s an eerie similarity between this chart and the 9-11 chart. The 8th House cusp in this chart is one degree from the Moon’s placement in the 9-11 chart. And both charts have Mercury (the Messenger) right above the Ascendant in the 12th House of karma and self-undoing.

But why, specifically, anti-semitism? I went through a gamut of feelings this week as I thought about this event and how it echoes the rise of Hitler amid a wave of anti-semitism and “white supremacy” in the 1930s – the last time Uranus was in Taurus.

I felt angry. I felt despair – how could this be happening again? I felt contempt and the desire to punish the lowlifes who parade their violence and hate under the banner of white supremacy. Continue reading

Venus Retrograde 2018: Unplug from Lower Vibrational Attachments

Venus Retrograde in Scorpio: For Love & Money

Venus is the planet that symbolizes love and relationships.  On Cathryn Taylor’s EFT for Spiritual Fitness show, I pointed out that Venus retrograde in Scorpio was going to challenge us to go within and understand how our own unresolved trauma causes us to experience lack, conflict, and dissatisfaction in relationships.

Venus also symbolizes money and what we value.  Another function of the 2018 Venus retrograde in Scorpio is to tune us in to where our values are misaligned with our intentions. This empowers us to make course corrections and experience more joy and pleasure and prosperity going forward.

Love & Money = Forms of Energy Flow

I have had amazing sessions with the clients who’ve signed up for readings during the Venus retrograde promotion. I’ve also experienced some mind-blowing insights in sessions with my coach and mentors.

I’m still processing some of this and meditating on how to share it. I do want to share an image that came through in a session with my amazing coach Lisa this week.

Short backstory: A couple of years ago I did an online prosperity workshop with my colleague Ra Ma Kaur. One of the big takeaways I got from the workshop was really understanding money as a form of energy flow.

We’ve all heard that a million times, right? What I realized was that, as an empath with a lot of childhood trauma, I had never felt consistently energized or safe enough to allow my energy to flow freely into the world.

Rather than focusing my energy into the actions necessary to achieve my goals, for example, I would consistently allow needy people to drain me. Or I would jump into people-pleasing behavior in order to feel safe: “If I just give them enough love and attention, then they will see my value and reward me accordingly.” Continue reading

Goddess in the Underworld: Libra New Moon – October 8, 2018

Venus, Ceres & Persephone: Re-Balancing Relationships

As I was meditating on the chart for the Libra New Moon last night, I kept being drawn to the fact that – right after the Kavanaugh fiasco – we have a New Moon in the sign of relationship and justice that is conjunct Ceres. And that Ceres is square Pluto.

Suddenly I experienced a little mental nudge: “I wonder where Persephone is?” (More on that in a sec…)

Venus, Persephone, Ceres: the goddess and her underworld journeyCeres’ tight conjunction to the New Moon indicates that Ceres themes (the pain of women and children in societies based on patriarchal privilege; abortion, abduction, sexual assault, pedophilia) are going to predominate. As I noted in my piece last week on the mythology of Ceres and how she shows up in astrological charts, Ceres has a strong warrior nature. But there seems to be a need for ritual grieving of the wounded feminine (in women and men) before that warrior side can be truly empowered.

Check. There’s definitely plenty of grief and shock to go around since the Senate voted Saturday to confirm Brett Kavanaugh as our newest Supreme Court justice. Kavanaugh’s judicial record and public comments certainly seem to legitimize the widespread fear that a high court now tilted heavily in favor of right wing ideologues will act as soon as possible to reverse Roe v Wade, the landmark ruling that made abortion legal 45 years ago.

New Moons always herald the end of an old cycle and the beginning of a new one. We are definitely still deep in the mourning / letting go of the past energy of the  ‘old cycle ending’ phase.

In my post on the astrology of the September 27 Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, I hypothesized that the reaction of Republican Senators, the President, and the right wing media was actually more important than whether or not Kavanaugh was confirmed.

I know it doesn’t feel that way for many of us. And it’s important that we feel our feelings now.

But Ceres has been super active in this year’s key astrology charts. And when we place this New Moon chart in the context of some bigger astrological cycles, we start to see the power of divine evolutionary intent at work.

I believe Ceres’ presence at this lunation indicates an evolutionary imperative to fundamentally rebalance our society’s attitudes toward not only women but toward the divine feminine and the divine masculine within each of us.

Even more than oppositions, squares in astrology indicate two archetypes butting heads with one another. Squares are challenging aspects, true; but they always produce change or movement in the material world. The potential of this square between the Sun/Moon/Ceres in Libra and Pluto in Capricorn is for an evolution in consciousness that challenges the status quo and contributes to the destruction or transformation of the patriarchal power structure.

Strange Echoes & A Light in the Darkness

So, I mentioned that I started wondering where Persephone was. I knew there was an asteroid named Persephone. But there are hundreds of named asteroids, most of which I’ve never used when casting charts.

Still, given the circumstances, it seemed wrong not to at least look up where she happens to be at the moment. And would you believe it?

Astrology of the Kavanaugh-Ford Senate Hearing

The Astrology of me too: Re-Visioning Our Society’s Values and Attitudes Toward Women

If you want to see the astrology of me too in action, look no further than the chart for the September 27 Senate hearing of Christine Blasey Ford’s allegations that Supreme Court nominee (and now justice) Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when they were both in high school.

In the current climate it would be shocking but not surprising were Kavanaugh to be confirmed as the new Supreme Court Justice. This, despite Kavanaugh’s having put on a display of erratic behavior – and having lied under oath – in front of the Judiciary Committee that almost certainly would have seen him thrown out of his own courtroom.

We Need to Have a Real Conversation About Sex and Women’s Safety

The themes in the chart for the hearing ‘s official start time (Thursday, September 27, 2018, 10 am EDT, Washington, DC) couldn’t be more explicit.

Ceres Astrology: The Pain of Women in Patriarchal Society

Ceres, the Earth Mother: The Journey Through Grief to Advocacy

Ceres in astrology symbolizes the suffering of women in patriarchal society and societal values around nurturing.Ceres is often described in astrology writing as a benevolent but somewhat impersonal nurturer. In my experience working with Ceres in client charts, though, she more often symbolizes the suffering of women and children under patriarchal privilege.

The description of Ceres as a sort of less emotional Moon/Mother archetype accords with her mythological role of Earth Mother and harvest goddess. (Bread nurtures us, but it won’t rub our temples and tell us everything is going to be all right when we’re feeling down.) But it also paints a falsely rosy picture of a complex and challenging feminine archetype.

The Myth of Ceres and Proserpine

In the myth, Proserpine is abducted by Pluto and taken to the underworld. Ceres/Demeter goes to Mount Olympus and demands help from Jupiter in finding her missing daughter. Jupiter initially feigns ignorance to protect his bro.

“Sorry, can’t help you,” he says. “She was probably asking for it.” Continue reading

Equinox & Aries Full Moon: Authentic Self in Relationship

Aries Full Moon + Chiron Aries Point – September 24, 2018

#Me Too Chapter 2

On the eve of the Aries Full Moon, with Chiron exactly conjunct the Aries Point, another woman has come forward and accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault. This news came 24 hours after the fall equinox (spring equinox in the southern hemisphere).

The chart for the equinox gives us a picture of major energetic themes we will be working with in the coming three months. Two big themes that jump out at me from Saturday’s equinox chart are:

  • Major issues of assertiveness vs. compliance in relationships.
  • A society-wide reassessment of values (especially around money, sex and power).
Equinox: Sun enters Libra, Saturday, Sept. 22, 9:54 pm EDT, Washington, DC.

Healing Relationship WoundS – Emergence of the Authentic Self

At the equinox and at Monday’s Full Moon, Chiron is just a sliver of a degree away from 0 Aries 00 — aka the Aries Point.

Astrologer Eric Francis often says that the Aries Point is where we experience the personal as political and the political as personal. Aries Point astrology focuses the collective consciousness on the archetypal themes shown by the planets involved.

The fall equinox is, by definition, the moment when the Sun enters Libra. The 2018 equinox chart features the Sun, Mercury and Ceres opposite Chiron and the Aries Point, all squaring Saturn in Capricorn. So, what is that picture showing us?

Sun, Mercury, Ceres in Libra Opposition the Aries Point

The Sun brings attention and energy to the Libran themes of relationship, harmony, balance and justice. Mercury in Libra activates communication in and about relationships, while Ceres emphasizes the need for a global rebalancing of relationships so that the scales are no longer tilted toward men (“she must have been asking for it”).

Chiron on the Aries Point

Chiron in Aries specifically activates the wound of “Who I am – my real self – is unacceptable.” People born with Chiron in Aries (roughly 1968-1977) share a common sense of feeling unwanted, of not being good enough, or of needing to fundamentally change who they are in order to be loved or accepted.

Chiron on the Aries Point at the moment of the equinox indicates we have reached a time when we as a society can no longer afford the suffering caused by patriarchal relationship paradigms based on power, fear, shame and control.

Chiron, the wounded healer, always heals through a process of expanding awareness. Chiron activations magnify the pain of a situation until we can no longer deny or ignore it. Chiron teaches us that we cannot heal what we cannot feel. Continue reading

Mars Square Uranus: Accidents, Violence, and Shocking Insights?

Mars-Uranus #3 Brings the Potential for Accidents but Also Enlightenment

Mars square Uranus heightens the potential for accidents and other violent eruptions of energy. Last weekend, with Uranus conjunct the Ascendant, a drunk driver killed my neighbor’s mailbox and knocked out power to our neighborhood. In this video: what you need to know about this volatile astrology and dates you can check to understand the archetypal meaning of this aspect for you in 2018.

In this video I also show you how the Moon triggers the potentials in an aspect pattern between other planets, and how the Ascendant for your local space plays into the daily energy flow.

The Mars-Uranus square culminates on Tuesday, September 18. This is the third and final exact square of Mars and Uranus in this series. The first square occurred on May 15-16 with Mars in the first degree of Aquarius and Uranus in the first degree of Taurus. The second square – with Mars retrograde – happened at the total lunar eclipse in Aquarius on July 27.

Mercury Retrograde Is Over (Now What?)

Mercury Storms, Mars and Saturn Station, Pisces Full Moon – August 2018

Not Quite Full Speed Ahead

Although the massive planetary retrograde energies that have colored the last few months are starting to shift, we aren’t out of the woods quite yet. Mars stations direct on August 27, just after the Pisces Full Moon on August 26.

While Mercury resuming direct motion should bring mental clarity, the energetic whirlpool doesn’t really clear until September 7 when Saturn, which has been retrograde since mid-April, also returns to direct motion. Here’s how to approach the next two weeks…

The Mercury Storm

Astrologers often refer to the three or four days surrounding the exact moment when Mercury stations retrograde or returns to direct motion “the Mercury storm.” These periods tend to produce the most concentrated negative effects associated with Mercury retrogrades: technical malfunctions, traffic snafus, garbled communication, and a general inability to think or communicate clearly.

This particular Mercury storm was off the chain! Mercury returned to direct motion on Sunday, August 19. I talked to my daughter on the phone on Monday evening.

“Dad, what’s going on in the skies that is making it IMPOSSIBLE for me to focus?!” she demanded. “Something must be happening in the astrology. I mean, I start on my homework –  then I get distracted. Then I go back to it. Then I get distracted. Then I go back to it – distracted again! I’m so frustrated.” Continue reading
